Avalon String Quartet (4/2/17 @ 3:00 pm)

© Todd Rosenberg Photography 2012

The Avalon is quartet-in-residence at the Northern Illinois University School of Music, a position formerly held by the Vermeer Quartet. Additional teaching activities have included the Icicle Creek Chamber Music Institute, Interlochen Advanced Quartet Program, Madeline Island Music Camp, and the Britten-Pears School in England, as well as masterclasses at universities and conservatories throughout the United States. Additionally, they have given numerous performances and presentations to young audiences in under-resourced schools and communities.

“…This is quite simply one of the most polished and dynamic young string quartets I have come across. The players pressed into the phrases of Beethoven’s Quartet in B flat major (Opus 18, No. 6) with a full-throttle urgency that didn’t preclude precise intonation or acuteness of rhythm.” ~ John von Rhein, Chicago Tribune

Lonesome Highway a Tribute to Bob Dylan (4/8/17 @ 7:30 pm)

There are probably several reasons why, up until now, no tribute performer has been able to successfully replicate the music of Bob Dylan. Due to the sheer number of songs in his catalog, the complex, always changing styles and phrasings, and, of course, the one of a kind, unique Dylan look and persona, there hasn’t been an artist or band that has been able to put it all together in a convincing way. Until Lonesome Highway. No one does Bob Dylan better than this band, and no detail is overlooked. Ben Abney absolutely nails Bob Dylan – you’ll be blown away. He looks, sings and plays guitar and harmonica like Dylan. Kevin Weith rocks on drums, Mike Hillstrom’s on keys. Jared Olson’s guitar licks and harmonies complete the experience.
