The Institute for Policy and Engagement and Lakeside Arts have come together to provide a unique opportunity for University of Nottingham researchers. In The Limelight is a new training programme that will allow University of Nottingham researchers to improve communication skills and share research with the public. Those accepted onto the programme will be given bespoke training to then take control of the stage at Djanogly Theatre. This your chance to create a piece of work that suits your research and key audience, whether that be a live lecture, demonstration, short film or something else. This could be your opportunity to be In The Limelight.

TRAINING STRUCTURE
The programme will run during the first academic term of 2020-21 and will take the following structure.
Please be aware that all dates are subject to change should restrictions on campus be altered due to COVID-19.

Planning Your Event
Hear from those who have first-hand experience of public engagement, learn what to consider and discuss different types of engagement possible (such as performance/demonstration/lecture/show and tell).

Performance Training
Facilitated by Martin Berry (Head of Participation at Nottingham Playhouse), this session will help you produce your best performance on stage.

PERFORMANCE
- After completion of the programme you will have access to the Djangoly theatre and a full technical crew for half a day.
- Your performance(s) will be recorded and edited, then streamed through a media that suits your target audience. If it is appropriate to live stream the event this can be arranged.
- A copy will be made available to you for use and will be featured on university webpages.
ELIGIBILITY
- The programme is designed for researchers who have some experience of public engagement and want to enhance their skills.
- All staff on Research & Teaching and Technical Services contracts are eligible to apply.
- We welcome applications from staff of all disciplines and backgrounds.
HOW TO APPLY
There are a limited number of spaces available for this programme which will be allocated through a competitive process. Interested applicants must submit a short video abstract (which can feature you talking to camera and/or imagery) and commit to attending all three training sessions.
Upload your video to MediaSpace and email the link to theinstitute@nottingham.ac.uk. It should be no more than three minutes in length and include:
- Your name and post
- Area of research
- The type of event you hope to create
- The audience you want to reach
- Why you want to be part of this programme
Please note: If you are selected, your video abstract will be shared with other participants. Submissions will be judged by a panel on strength of concept and evidence of the individual’s commitment to public engagement.
